The players get the ball off the ground first and then shoot on the volley towards a goal, shooting board or similar. Practise with both the right and the left foot.
Shoot on the volley, primarily with the instep, trying to achieve a fairly high ball trajectory with the ball dropping rapidly into the goal. Therefore try to connect below the centre of the ball.
Train in pairs with one of you acting as goalkeeper to try to achieve the right ball trajectory. Swap roles.
Coaching points (here we call them SECRETS):
  • When shooting on the volley, you should primarily use the instep, the outside or the inside of the foot
  • Keep your foot solid at the moment of contact
  • Connect on or below the centre of the ball
  • If you connect below the centre of the ball, this can produce a curved ball trajectory over the goalkeeper into the goal
  • Accuracy is achieved by connecting with the ball properly
  • Practise shooting with both feet
