Practice the scissors move in pairs. Take turns being a reasonably passive defender and an attacker challenging at half-speed.
Practice performing the move in various directions and using both feet in the execution. Perform the move in various ways, learning the ways which best suit each player. Try repeating the move.
Restrict the area, allow the defender to intercept and swap roles after every interception.
Coaching points (here we call them SECRETS):
  • The scissors move is good when you are moving straight towards the defender at half-speed
  • It can also be used when you are almost sta- tionary and challenging the defender
  • If you are almost stationary or moving at low speed when you want to feint, perform the move near your opponent
  • Feint well and rapidly so that your opponent loses balance
  • Feint your opponent in one direction and dribble past in the other
  • Get your opponent off balance by feinting with a scissors move in one direction
  • Use your arms and gaze to help when you feint
  • Feel free to look in the direction you are feinting first
  • Step quickly and clearly over the ball with one foot in one direction
  • You can also drag your foot right next to the ball, i.e. in front or behind it
  • Then take the ball with you in the other direction and dodge away explosively
  • You have to increase your speed significantly to get away from your opponent
  • You must be in balance yourself when you want to increase your speed explosively
  • Gather all your power in the leg you are pushing away with and the foot which is on the ground
  • At the same time lean in the direction you are running
  • Push away from the ground powerfully and explosively every time you push away
  • Afterward it is also good to run in front of your opponent who will lose speed
  • You can take the ball with you with either foot after the scissors move
  • Occasionally it is best to take the ball with the inside of the foot you used to perform the scissors move
  • Using the outside of the other foot gives you the most explosive start
  • You can also repeat the feint until your opponent loses balance
  • Learn to perform the scissors move in various directions
  • Practice using both feet when executing the feint
  • The scissors move can be carried out in many different ways
  • Learn the ways which suit you best
