Three players attack three defenders and a goalkeeper immediately in front of the goal. The defenders defend the danger areas and try to intercept. Swap over attack and defence after a while. Feel free to count the goals scored and compete after a while. E.g. five attempted attacks per go per team.
The players primarily practise defending the danger areas immediately in front of goal during central attacks.
Feel free to defend with a numerical disadvantage in the same way.
Coaching points (here we call them SECRETS):
  • When you want to play safe in defence, you should defend sensibly
  • Particularly when you opponents are attacking with more or the same number of players as you have in defence
  • It is important first and foremost always to defend the danger areas
  • These are primarily those areas nearest your own goal in a situation
  • By this, we mean primarily situations in front of your own goal, but also further out on the pitch
  • In this case, you should e.g. mark your opponents who are in the danger areas
  • First and foremost, mark those who are in the most dangerous positions in these areas
  • I.e. basically those opponents who are nearest your goal
  • This is a natural way for players to act in defence
  • In order to defend the danger areas, avoid looking just at the ball
  • Act instead so that you can look out at the pitch as much as possible
  • It is then difficult for your opponents to surprise you e.g. with blind-side runs
  • You will then also see what is happening at the far-post area
  • When you are at a numerical disadvantage, it is important to delay your opponents' attack
  • You should defend the danger areas at the same time
  • Occasionally, no other players will manage to get back and help you
  • In this case, you will have to pressure the person with the ball in the end and prevent your opponents from finishing
  • Learn to recognise when and how you should defend the danger areas and which areas these are
  • Learn to help your team-mates to defend these areas by communicating
